The local community works with the Spectacled Bear Conservation Society in partnership with ANIA and Rainforest Concern to manage the reserve and its wildlife.
The Spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus) is currently in decline and listed as 'Vulnerable' by the IUCN Red List.

The adult bear was spotted in La Peña reserve in the Lambayeque province of Peru in July 2018. Here, there are a goup of spectacled bears who are restricted to the dry forests of Peru.
